Expanded Shamanic Healing Practices

Shamanic Drum Healing

What it is: An ancient practice found across many cultures, the drum is used as a sacred tool to shift consciousness and facilitate healing. Its rhythmic vibrations echo the heartbeat of the Earth.

How it’s done: The practitioner plays the drum close to or around the client’s energy field. The vibrations penetrate physical, emotional, and spiritual layers, shaking loose stagnant energies and re-aligning flow.

Benefits: Deep relaxation, stress release, improved energy flow, heightened awareness, and emotional release.

Spiritual Aspects: The drumbeat is seen as a “bridge” to other realms, enabling connection with Spirit guides, ancestors, and higher wisdom. It opens altered states where healing and spiritual insight naturally unfold.

Shamanic Journeying

What it is: A meditative practice where the practitioner or client enters a “non-ordinary reality” to connect with Spirit for guidance and healing.

How it’s done: Often supported by steady drumming or rattling, the practitioner journeys inward to meet guides, allies, or ancestors. Journeys may be done on behalf of the client or with the client guided through the process.

Benefits: Insight into life questions, clarity on challenges, empowerment through direct guidance, and deeper spiritual connection.

Spiritual Aspects: Journeying connects you to the “unseen worlds” — upper, middle, and lower realms described in shamanic traditions — bringing wisdom and support beyond ordinary perception.

Soul Retrieval

What it is: A process of reintegrating parts of the soul that may have fragmented due to trauma, grief, or difficult experiences.

How it’s done: The practitioner journeys to locate the missing “soul parts” and, with the help of guides, brings them back to the client’s energy field. The client receives these parts back with ceremony and intention.

Benefits: Increased vitality, wholeness, emotional strength, and freedom from repeating unhealthy patterns. Many people feel more “themselves” afterward.

Spiritual Aspects: Soul retrieval restores lost power and reconnects the individual with their authentic essence, bringing them back into alignment with their soul’s purpose.

Power Animal Retrieval

What it is: Power animals are spiritual allies that protect, guide, and empower us. Sometimes, these allies may be absent or unacknowledged, leaving a person feeling disempowered.

How it’s done: The practitioner journeys to meet the client’s power animal and then ceremonially reintroduces it into the client’s energy field.

Benefits: Renewed energy, strength, protection, confidence, and intuitive support. Clients often report feeling less alone and more connected to life.

Spiritual Aspects: Power animals symbolise spiritual guardianship. Reconnecting with them re-establishes the natural bond between human and Spirit, reminding us we are supported and guided.

Extraction Healing

What it is: A method of identifying and removing “intrusive energies” that do not belong in the client’s energy field. These intrusions may come from emotional wounds, negative thought patterns, or energetic influences.

How it’s done: Using hands, breath, sound, or spiritual tools, the practitioner locates stagnant or intrusive energy and removes it. The space is then filled with healing energy or light.

Benefits: Relief from fatigue, emotional heaviness, or recurring discomfort. A renewed sense of clarity and lightness.

Spiritual Aspects: Extraction is seen as “clearing the way” for Spirit and life force to flow freely, restoring the person to harmony.

Ancestral Healing

What it is: Healing that addresses patterns, traumas, or unresolved energies passed down through family or ancestral lines.

How it’s done: Through guided journeying, ritual, or ceremony, the practitioner works with ancestral spirits or the client’s lineage to release burdens and restore harmony.

Benefits: Freedom from repeating family patterns, release of inherited emotional weight, and reconnection with ancestral wisdom and support.

Spiritual Aspects: This healing honours the ancestors, acknowledging both their wounds and their gifts, and restores balance through the lineage for both the client and future generations.

Ceremony & Ritual

What it is: Sacred acts that mark transitions, release energies, or invite new intentions. Common rituals include fire ceremonies, despacho (offering) ceremonies, water blessings, and seasonal celebrations.

How it’s done: Ceremonies may involve offerings to the elements, prayers, chanting, drumming, or symbolic acts (like burning what no longer serves).

Benefits: Powerful release of old energies, clarity of intention, empowerment in new directions, and strengthened spiritual connection.

Spiritual Aspects: Ritual is the language of Spirit — it creates a bridge between the physical and spiritual realms, allowing transformation to be anchored into everyday life.

Hawaiian Spirituality: Living Through the Three Souls of the Self

The journey of self-discovery is not about escaping life but learning to live in balance and wholeness. Across many cultures, this path is described as an integration of our different aspects—a harmony between the inner world and the outer life we live each day.

Within each of us are not one but three distinct souls, working together as the foundation of our being. Understanding them offers a map for clarity, purpose, and authentic connection.

The Spiritual Soul (Aumakua)

This soul is the radiant essence of your higher self—the eternal spark that carries intuition, inspiration, and divine creativity. It is the guiding light that reminds you that you are more than your physical form or a single lifetime. By turning toward this soul, you awaken your inner teacher and align with timeless wisdom.

The Body Soul (Ku)

Known as the memory holder and the seat of instinct, the Body Soul stores emotions, patterns, and ancestral knowing. It is through this soul that we feel, heal, and directly experience the richness of life. To honour this aspect is to listen to the wisdom of your emotions and respect the intelligence of the body as a vessel of growth and pleasure.

The Mental Soul (Lono)

This soul is the mind—the organiser, the discerner, the one who interprets experience. It shapes meaning, brings ideas into form, and helps translate the vision of Spirit into daily choices. To consciously work with this soul is to embrace your role as a
co-creator, giving structure to inspiration and direction to your life.

Together, these three souls form a living trinity.
They teach us that spirituality is not found in abandoning our humanity but in embracing it fully—mind, body, and spirit aligned in harmony.
To walk with all three is to live with clarity, purpose, and a deeper connection to the whole of life.
